What this film is

This is a pressure-activated cold seal rollstock film with a matte finish. Instead of using heat to melt and bond the sealant layer, the film carries a coated seal layer that bonds when pressure is applied. The matte coating also gives the finished pack a low-glare surface that holds print well and feels consistent on the shelf. It is supplied as rollstock for form-fill-seal equipment, not as pre-made pouches.

The film is built for products that cannot take heat. Chocolate, powdered drink mixes, certain medical sachets and aroma-sensitive goods can be damaged by the temperatures used in conventional heat sealing. Cold seal avoids that exposure at the sealing jaw, so the product inside stays as it was filled. Barrier performance protects powders and liquids from moisture, oxygen and fragrance loss, which is what determines whether a stick pack or sachet still tastes and performs correctly at end of shelf life.

Features and material options

The core feature is the pressure-only seal. It forms a strong, reliable bond without heat, which also means less energy drawn at the sealing station and a simpler machine setup. That matters on high-speed lines where dwell time is short and consistent seal quality is hard to hold.

Material options include mono-material PE and recyclable film structures, plus biodegradable components for brands moving toward sustainable packaging. These lightweight films reduce material use per pack compared with rigid formats. For custom printing, the film is available in metallic, glossy or matte surfaces, with digital printing for brand graphics, logos and variable design work. Finishes can be specified as matte, glossy or soft-touch.

All packaging materials meet FDA and EU regulations for direct food contact. Tear notch and sealing choices can be specified to suit the opening experience and the filling line. Because the film is rollstock, pack dimensions, seal position and print layout are set at the artwork stage rather than fixed by a pre-made pouch size.

Where it is used

Cold seal rollstock is widely used in confectionery, snacks and medical packaging, where stable sealing performance and a clean matte finish are both required. Typical formats are stick packs and sachets filled on vertical form-fill-seal machines. The film runs on high-speed VFFS stick-pack equipment, so it suits producers already running that format or planning to add it.

Beyond confectionery and medical items, the same film is used for food, beverage, supplement, medicine, cosmetic and functional nutrition products. Any product that is dosed as a powder, granule or liquid into a narrow stick or sachet is a candidate, provided the fill weight and pack dimensions are set to match the rollstock.

Filling, sealing and the material trade-off

This film is made for automated filling. It runs on high-speed VFFS stick-pack machines, and the pressure seal is formed by the sealing jaws without heat input. That keeps the process reliable at speed and avoids heat damage to the product. Before committing to a full run, it is worth testing the film on your own machine to confirm filling, sealing and machinery compatibility.

The honest trade-off sits in the material choice. Mono-material PE and recyclable structures support sustainability targets, but they generally offer less barrier than foil-containing laminates. If the product is highly sensitive to oxygen or moisture, a foil-free structure may not reach the same shelf life. Biodegradable components add another variable. The right answer depends on the product, the required shelf life and the recycling or composting claim the brand intends to make.
