Spouted Stand-Up Barrier Pouch Sauce Packaging Pouch

Spouted stand-up barrier pouch in OPP/PET/foil/PE at 140 micron, with leak-resistant cap, rounded corners and wide base for sauces and liquids.

What this pack is

This is a stand-up pouch fitted with a spout and cap, built for sauces, purees and other flowable foods. The quoted structure is OPP/PET/foil/PE at 140 micron, a four-layer laminate that combines an outer reverse-printed film, a metallised or aluminium foil barrier layer, and a food-contact PE sealant. The foil layer is the reason this pack suits products that are sensitive to oxygen and light: it blocks both, so colour, aroma and fat stability hold up over a normal ambient shelf life. The 140 micron gauge gives the pouch enough stiffness to stand on a shelf and enough body to survive handling without creasing badly. Thickness and material combination can be adjusted for different fill weights and barrier targets.

Because the pack stands on its own base, it works on a shelf or a counter without a secondary carton. The spout sits at the top, so the product pours or squeezes out under control rather than being spooned from an open pouch.

Features that matter on the line

The cap is designed to resist loosening, so a filled pouch can be carried or stored upside down without leaking. That matters for sauces with low viscosity, where a loose cap would weep in transit. The four corners of the pouch are rounded. Sharp corners are a common cause of scuffed print and punctured pouches in a carton, and rounding them reduces both. The base is widened so the pouch stands with a three-dimensional footprint; it resists tipping when a customer lifts a neighbouring pack from the shelf.

Print is high definition, which keeps fine type, ingredient panels and brand marks legible on a curved, flexible surface. The pouch can be printed by rotogravure up to 10 colours, by digital, or by flexographic, depending on run size and artwork. Available add-ons across this format include a one-way degassing valve, zipper, tear notch, window, spout and cap, carry handle and hang hole. For sauces, the spout and cap is the functional closure; a window can be added where the product itself is the selling point.

Where it is used

Spouted stand-up pouches are used for tomato and pasta sauces, fruit purees, baby food, condiments, dressings, marinades, honey, syrups, smoothie bases and pet food toppers. They are also used for liquid soaps and other non-food flowables where the same laminate and spout work. Fill weights commonly run from around 100 g to 1 kg, though the exact range depends on the pouch dimensions and the density of the product. A wider base and taller body suits larger fills; a shorter, wider pouch suits single-serve or sample sizes.

The format replaces glass jars and rigid bottles in many of these applications. A pouch is lighter, takes less shelf space when empty, and ships more units per pallet. The trade-off is that a flexible pouch needs a filling line set up for spouted packs, and the pouch itself offers less physical protection than glass.

Filling, sealing and the honest trade-off

Spouted pouches are filled through the spout or through the open top before the spout is sealed in. Either way, the fill temperature and the product's acidity affect which sealant layer is right. The PE sealant in this structure gives a reliable heat seal, but very hot fills can stress the laminate, so the fill temperature should be agreed before the material is locked. The cap is applied after filling, and a torque check on the cap is what prevents the upside-down leak the pack is designed to avoid.

The barrier here comes from the foil layer. That is the right choice for long ambient shelf life, but it means the pouch is not recyclable in mono-material streams. Where recyclability is the priority, a mono-material PE or PP structure can be specified instead, at the cost of some barrier performance. MOQ starts at 100 pcs for pouches with digital printing, or 10,000 pcs with rotogravure. Digital runs ship in 10-15 working days after artwork approval; rotogravure in 20-25 working days. Frequently asked

Can the pouch really be carried upside down without leaking?
The cap is designed to resist loosening, which is what keeps a filled pouch from weeping when it is stored or carried inverted. The seal depends on correct cap torque at filling, so the capping head should be checked against the spout specification. For low-viscosity sauces, a quick inverted hold test on the first production run is worth doing.
Is the foil layer necessary, or can I use a recyclable structure?
The foil is what gives this pack its oxygen and light barrier, so it is the right choice for long ambient shelf life. If recyclability matters more than shelf life, a mono-material PE or PP structure can be specified instead. Barrier performance will be lower, so the product's sensitivity and target shelf life should be agreed first.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
MOQ starts at 100 pcs for pouches with digital printing, or 10,000 pcs with rotogravure. Digital print runs ship in 10-15 working days after artwork approval, and rotogravure runs in 20-25 working days. Stock pouch samples are free; you cover the courier.
Can I change the thickness or material for my fill weight?
Yes. The quoted 140 micron and OPP/PET/foil/PE structure are a starting point, and both thickness and material combination can be adjusted. The right gauge depends on fill weight, drop height and the barrier the product needs. Share the fill weight and shelf-life target and the structure can be matched to it.
