Custom Pre-Zippered Roll Stock Film Recyclable High Barrier Rewind Film

What this rollstock is

This is a roll-fed flexible film with a resealable zipper already applied to the web. The structure is M.OPP/MPET/PE: an oriented polypropylene outer layer for print and scuff resistance, a metallised polyester core for oxygen and moisture barrier, and a polyethylene sealant layer that closes on standard heat-seal jaws. The metallised PET layer is the barrier engine. It slows oxygen ingress and moisture vapour transmission, which protects fat-containing and hygroscopic products from staling and texture loss. The PE sealant gives a strong closure at the fin or lap seam.

Film is supplied on 50-300 m rolls, with width, repeat length, zipper position and roll core set to your filling line. Surface finish can be matte or glossy. The web runs smoothly and sits between rigid and flexible, so it feeds without snapping on high-speed VFFS machines. Because the zipper is pre-applied, the forming collar and sealing jaws work with a single web instead of two, which removes the alignment step that causes zipper skew on premade pouches.

Zipper and barrier performance

The zipper is heat-sealed into the film during converting, so it sits flat and tracks straight through the forming tube. It opens and closes repeatedly without leaking. Once closed, the interlocking profile limits air exchange and keeps dust out, which extends the usable life of the pack after first opening. For coffee, nuts and dried fruit, that resealability matters more than the initial seal alone, because most quality loss happens after the consumer opens the bag.

Barrier comes from the metallised PET core. It is not a foil structure, so it will not match aluminium foil laminates on the longest shelf-life requirements. It is a good fit where a few months of protection and a resealable format are the priority. If your product needs an oxygen scavenger or a high-barrier foil layer, that is a different laminate and should be specified separately. Print can be matte or glossy, and the surface takes registration well for multi-colour work.

Where it is used

Pre-zippered rollstock suits products sold in resealable bags and filled on vertical form-fill-seal equipment. Typical packs include snack mixes, granola, dried fruit, nuts, coffee beans and ground coffee, pet treats, dry pet food, tea, powdered drink mixes and contract-manufactured private-label goods. Because the film is cut to length on the line, you can run several bag sizes from one roll without ordering premade pouches for each SKU.

The format also works for brands moving from premade zipper pouches to roll-fed production. You keep the resealable feature but gain the lower material cost per pack that comes with rollstock. Fill weights are set by your auger, volumetric or multihead weigher, not by the film, so the same roll can run 100 g, 250 g or 500 g packs as long as the bag width and repeat length match the forming tube.

Filling, sealing and handling

The film runs on existing VFFS lines without mechanical modification, provided the machine can handle the web width and the zipper profile. Change-over time is low because there are no premade pouches to load and no zipper alignment to adjust. High-speed, high-volume lines benefit most: the roll feeds continuously, so the only stops are for roll changes and routine jaw cleaning.

Sealing parameters matter. The PE sealant needs enough dwell time and jaw pressure to close through any product dust in the seal area. Keep the sealing jaws clean and set temperature to the film supplier's range. The zipper section should pass through the jaws without crushing; if the profile flattens, resealability drops. Store rolls in a dry area away from direct sun. The honest trade-off is recyclability versus barrier: this metallised structure performs well for short-to-medium shelf life, but if you need mono-material PE recyclability or compostable PLA/PBS, those are separate specifications with different barrier curves. Low MOQ starts from 10 kg for film with digital printing, and lead time is 10-15 working days after artwork approval. Rotogravure runs start at 200 kg with 20-25 working days.
