What this pouch is

This is a reclosable stand-up pouch built around a child-resistant press-to-close zipper. The zipper needs two hands and deliberate dexterity to open, which keeps young children out while adults can still reseal the pack after every use. The pouch is constructed from mono-material PE or PP film, a single-polymer structure that supports recyclability streams where they exist. Walls are thick food-grade plastic with a flexible, puncture-resistant build.

The barrier layer blocks moisture, oxygen and aroma from moving in or out. That matters for edibles, capsules and dried flower, where flavour loss, texture change or potency drift shorten shelf life. High-vapour-barrier options are available, including metalized films when a longer shelf life is needed. Transparent or clouded windows let buyers see the product without opening the pack. The pouch format is a stand-up bag, a flat-bottomed bag, a three-side-seal bag or an organ bag, depending on how the pack will sit on shelf or in a tray.

Child-resistant features and options

The closure is the core safety feature. Two child-resistant zipper types are available, both economical press-to-close designs. One is a stand-up pouch zipper; the other is a press-to-close exit-bag zipper. Both require the two-handed action that children find hard to replicate. The zipper is certified child-resistant, and the film itself can be supplied as child-resistant material.

Beyond the zipper, the pouch can be built with tear notches for clean opening, puncture- and tear-resistant film, and a wide choice of sizes. Bottom and gusset options include DOY seal, K-seal and three-side seal. Colours are customizable, and the pack can carry windows, metalized layers and print. Every option is chosen against the product inside and the filling line it will run on.

Where it is used

These pouches are used for cannabis edibles, supplements, pet food and medication, and for other items that do not fit a pill vial. They also serve as a poison-prevention pack for toxic or hazardous household items. Dispensaries, supplement brands and contract manufacturers use them where a resealable, child-resistant pack is required. Sizes are custom or standard, so the pouch can match a single dose, a multi-serving edible or a bulk supplement count.

Filling, sealing and trade-offs

The pouch runs on standard form-fill-seal and pre-made pouch filling lines. The press-to-close zipper sits above the fill zone, so the pack is filled, then the top seal is closed. The child-resistant action is in the zipper, not the seal, so the seal can be a normal heat seal. Tear notches are placed where the user opens the pack, and the zipper is reclosed after each use.

Mono-material PE and PP support recyclability where collection exists, but they do not match foil laminates for absolute moisture and oxygen barrier. For very sensitive edibles or long ambient storage, a metalized or high-barrier film is the better choice. The trade-off is recyclability versus shelf life. Lead time and MOQ depend on print method: digital print runs from 100 pcs for pouches or 10 kg for film, with 10-15 working days after artwork approval; rotogravure runs from 10,000 pcs or 200 kg, with 20-25 working days.
