What this pack is

This is a flexible pet food pack built on a PET/PE laminate at 140 micron. The PET outer layer carries the print and resists scuffing in transit; the PE inner layer seals and provides the moisture barrier. The structure is a workhorse for dry kibble, treats and chilled pet meals, where the main threats are moisture pickup, oxygen and handling damage. Thickness is customizable, so you can go heavier for large-format bags that need more puncture resistance or lighter for single-serve sachets.

The bag runs in three formats: flat bottom, side gusset and stand up pouch. Flat bottom bags hold a rectangular footprint and stack well on shelf; side gusset bags expand to take larger fills; stand up pouches give a compact retail presence for smaller weights. All three can be supplied with a high-barrier film structure to keep oxygen and moisture out, which extends shelf life without refrigeration for many dry recipes.

Features and closures

The pack can be fitted with a resealable zipper or a peel-and-reseal strip. This matters for pet owners who open a bag daily: a working closure keeps the remaining food crisp and reduces the need to decant into a separate container. For chilled or fresh pet meals, a high-barrier film slows moisture loss and keeps the product looking and smelling as intended.

Print options include rotogravure up to 10 colours, digital and flexographic. Digital is the practical route for short runs and frequent artwork changes; rotogravure makes sense once volumes are high enough to justify cylinder costs. Add-ons such as a one-way degassing valve, tear notch, window, carry handle, hang hole, and spout with cap are available depending on the format. A valve is useful when the fill releases gas; a window lets shoppers see the kibble or treat shape; a handle helps with larger bag weights.

Where it is used

These packs suit dry kibble, biscuits and treats, freeze-dried or raw-style pet food, chilled meals, and pet care items such as supplements or grooming products that need a sealed, printed pouch. Typical sizes run from single-serve and trial packs up to large-volume bags for multi-pet households or wholesale channels.

The same structures work for contract manufacturers and private-label brands that need a consistent bag across a range. Because the format, thickness and material can be adjusted, a brand can use one print design across a small trial pouch and a larger family bag without changing the look.

Filling, sealing and handling

These bags run on standard vertical form-fill-seal or pouch filling lines. The PE inner layer seals at typical heat-seal temperatures, and the flat bottom and side gusset formats need a filling line that supports the bag shape. If you are moving from a rigid container, check that your filler can handle the pouch format and the fill weight you plan.

The trade-off to weigh is material choice. PET/PE gives a good moisture barrier and strong seals at a reasonable cost, but it is not a foil structure, so it will not match the oxygen barrier of PET/AL/PE for very oxygen-sensitive recipes. If recyclability is the priority, mono-material PE or PP options are available; they are designed for recycling streams but typically offer a lower barrier than foil laminates. For chilled or delicate pet food, confirm the barrier requirement with your product team before locking the structure.
