What this pack is

This is a stand up pouch built for dry dog food. The standard structure is PET/PE at 140 micron. PET gives the outer layer stiffness and a clean print surface. PE forms the inner layer that contacts the kibble and carries the seal. The thickness is a starting point, not a fixed rule: it can be adjusted to suit the fill weight and the abuse the pack takes in transit.

PET/PE is a general-purpose food-contact laminate. It handles dry goods well and resists punctures from sharp kibble edges. It is not a high-barrier foil structure, so it suits products with a normal shelf life rather than long ambient storage where oxygen and moisture are critical. If a brand needs a longer window, higher-barrier options are available within the same bag format.

Features built into the bag

The top edge has a U-shaped tear notch. It gives the user a defined start point, so the bag opens without scissors and without tearing down the side. Below it sits a press-to-close seal: the two profiles press together by hand and hold, which keeps air exchange down once the bag is open and makes repeated scooping or pouring practical.

The base is self-supporting. The bottom gusset folds flat for shipping and stands the pouch upright when filled, so it holds shelf position and carries its own weight without a outer carton. Side edges are cut flat and even, which keeps the pack square on the shelf and helps it run cleanly through filling and sealing equipment.

Printing is high-definition digital. Digital print holds fine detail, gradients and small type, and it is the route that makes short runs viable. Rotogravure remains available for larger volumes where the artwork is fixed and colour consistency across very long runs matters most.

Where it is used

The format suits dry dog food across a range of pack sizes, from small trial and sample bags up to larger household bags. It also works for dog treats, kibble blends and mixers where the same bag style is used across a product line.

The same construction is used for other dry pet food, including cat food and small-animal feed, when the fill weight and the required shelf life match what PET/PE can deliver. Custom sizes, colours and artwork are part of the standard offer, so one bag design can be scaled across a range.

Filling, sealing and handling

The pouch is filled from the top and sealed across the top seam on standard form-fill-seal or pre-made pouch lines. Because the base is pre-formed, the bag needs to be opened and held during filling; a pouch opening station or a filling line set up for stand up pouches handles this. The flat side edges help the bag sit straight in the magazine and reduce mis-feeds.

The honest trade-off is barrier. PET/PE gives good mechanical protection and a food-safe contact layer, but it is not a foil or metallised structure. For dog food that moves quickly and is stored in normal retail conditions, that is usually enough. For longer ambient shelf life, or for products with oils that are sensitive to oxygen, a higher-barrier laminate is the better choice and can be quoted in the same bag format.

Minimum order quantities depend on the print method. Digital print starts from 100 pouches, or 10 kg for roll film, with a lead time of 10-15 working days after artwork approval. Rotogravure starts from 10,000 pouches or 200 kg, with a lead time of 20-25 working days. Stock pouch samples are free; the customer covers courier only.
