AlOx PET/PA/RCPP retort pouch that withstands 135°C for 50–55 minutes, providing high barrier and puncture resistance for soups, sauces, stews and prepared meals.
This is a retort pouch built for heat sterilisation. The laminate combines three layers: an AlOx PET outer layer, a PA (nylon) middle layer, and an RCPP inner layer. AlOx PET gives a high barrier against oxygen and moisture without a foil layer, so the pack stays flexible and metal-free. PA adds strength and puncture resistance to survive handling and the retort process. RCPP is the food-contact sealant, chosen because it holds its integrity at 135°C without delaminating.
The structure is designed for a retort cycle of at least 50 to 55 minutes at 250°F (135°C). That is the maximum temperature the pouch is rated for. After cooking, the pouch keeps a clean appearance with no stratification. A systematic inspection process checks every pouch for leaks. The barrier protects the contents from oxygen and moisture, which helps maintain shelf life for heat-sterilised foods.
The pouch can be made in all bag types: flat bottom, stand-up, three-side-seal, spout, side gusset, rollstock, and special shapes. Closures and add-ons include zippers, tear notches, windows, spouts and caps, carry handles, hang holes, and one-way degassing valves. Printing is available in rotogravure (up to 10 colours), flexographic, and digital. Full-colour custom branding is possible with your design.
For retort applications, the material combination is AlOx PET, PA, and RCPP. These layers are selected to provide varying sealing strengths and heat resistance. The inner RCPP layer is specifically designed for foods cooked at 135°C and will not delaminate. The AlOx PET surface layer delivers high barrier performance and durability under high heat. The NY composite layer adds toughness and puncture resistance to protect against damage during handling and cooking.
Retort pouches are used for heat-sterilised foods such as soups, stews, sauces, prepared meals, and pet food. They are also suitable for fast food and other products that require a long shelf life without refrigeration. The pouch can be filled with a wide range of viscosities, from liquids to chunky mixtures. Common pack sizes range from single-serve portions to family-size meals, though exact dimensions depend on your filling line and product volume.
Retort pouches run on standard filling and sealing equipment. The sealing parameters must be set for the RCPP inner layer to ensure a strong, leak-free seal. After filling, the pouch goes through the retort cycle at up to 135°C for 50–55 minutes. The pouch is designed to withstand this without delamination or appearance changes. A leak inspection is performed on every pouch to catch any seal defects.
The trade-off with this material is that AlOx PET offers a high barrier but not the absolute barrier of aluminium foil. For most retort applications, it provides sufficient oxygen and moisture protection to achieve a long shelf life. If you need the highest possible barrier, a foil-containing laminate may be better, but this pouch is a strong choice for brands wanting a metal-free, flexible retort pack. Minimum order quantities start from 100 pcs for pouches with digital printing, or 10,000 pcs with rotogravure. Lead time is 10–15 working days for digital and 20–25 working days for rotogravure after artwork approval.
