What this pack is

This is a flat bottom pouch built for roasted coffee and similar dry goods. The base is folded and heat-sealed so the bag stands upright on the shelf and carries weight without bulging. Materials are food-grade and compostable: PLA, PBS, kraft paper and NK or NKME laminates. These are not conventional PE or foil structures. They are designed to break down in industrial composting conditions while still giving the coffee a working barrier against moisture and oxygen.

The flat bottom shape holds its form after filling, which matters on a filling line because the bag does not need a separate support. The material combination keeps the pack light, and the paper content gives it a natural look that suits specialty coffee brands. Thickness and exact laminate build are set by the application; the factory confirms the structure once the pack size and barrier target are known.

Features and closures

A one-way degassing valve is fitted to the front or side. It lets carbon dioxide escape from freshly roasted beans while blocking outside air from entering. Without a valve, a sealed bag can inflate and stress the seals; the valve prevents that and helps the coffee degas without oxidation.

The bag has a tear notch for opening and a press-to-close zipper. The zipper is a concave-convex profile that seals with light finger pressure and resists air leakage after the first open. The flat bottom adds load-bearing strength, so larger fill weights stay stable. The surface takes bright, detailed print. Digital printing with eco inks is available, and bag size, colour and valve position can all be customised. Free stock pouch samples are available; the customer covers courier only.

Where it is used

These bags suit roasted coffee in whole bean and ground form, tea, pet food and dry snacks. Common fill sizes run from 250 g to 1 kg, though the format scales to other weights. The valve makes them a natural fit for coffee that is packed soon after roasting. For tea and dry snacks, the same structure works without the valve if the product does not release gas.

The compostable claim matters most in markets where industrial composting collection exists. The materials meet ASTM D6400, EN13432 and BPI requirements for industrial compostability, and the finished bags meet FDA food contact rules. These certifications belong to the manufacturing partner and the specific material grades used, not to the supplier. Buyers should confirm the exact certificate scope for their chosen structure.

Filling, sealing and handling

Flat bottom pouches run on standard vertical form-fill-seal lines with a flat bottom attachment, or they can be pre-made and filled on a pouch filling line. The press-to-close zipper sits below the top seal, so the filling throat is straightforward. Seal temperature and dwell time need to be set for the compostable laminate, which behaves differently from PE or foil. The factory provides recommended sealing windows.

The honest trade-off is barrier. Compostable materials do not match the oxygen and moisture barrier of PET/AL/PE. For coffee, the valve and the laminate build give useful protection, but shelf life will be shorter than a foil-based pack. If a long ambient shelf life is the priority, a recyclable mono-material PE or a conventional foil structure is the better choice. If compostability is the priority, this pack delivers it with a practical coffee format. Minimum order quantities start from 100 pcs for digital print pouches and 10,000 pcs for rotogravure.
