Custom Child Resistant Mylar Bags​ For Cannabis Edible Packaging

What this pack is

This is a child-resistant flexible pouch built around a certified child-resistant zipper and child-resistant film. It comes in four structures: stand-up pouch, flat-bottom pouch, three-side-seal pouch and organ bag. The material is a mono-material PE or PP construction, which keeps the pack in a single polymer stream for recyclability. That choice also gives a solid moisture and gas barrier for dry and semi-dry goods. The bag can be heat sealed after filling, so the primary seal is made on your line and the child-resistant zipper sits as the reclosure above it.

For cannabis edibles, gummies, flower and concentrates, the job is twofold: keep oxygen, light and moisture away from the product, and make it hard for a child to open the pack and reach the contents. A mono-material PE or PP laminate does both when the film gauge and zipper are specified together. The zipper needs two hands and a deliberate sequence to open. Adults manage it without effort. Children typically cannot.

Color is fully customizable, and the film can be printed in matte or gloss finish with holographic effects and window options. The pouch is food grade and intended for direct contact with the product.

Child-resistant zipper and opening features

The child-resistant function comes from the zipper, not from the bag shape. Several zipper forms are available, including stand-up pouch zippers and press-to-close zipper exit bags. All of them require dexterity and two hands to open. That is the mechanism that keeps children out while leaving the pack easy for an adult to reseal.

A tear notch is placed on the pouch so the top can be opened cleanly after the heat seal is broken. Once the notch is torn, the child-resistant zipper becomes the everyday reclosure. The bag can also be fitted with a hang hole for peg display and a window if you want the product visible on shelf.

Printing is available in rotogravure and digital. Rotogravure suits larger runs and up to 10 colours. Digital suits shorter runs and versioned artwork. Both give high-definition branding on the same film.

Where it is used

The main applications are cannabis flower, medical cannabis, edibles, gummies, concentrates, pre-rolls, vape cartridges and accessories. The same pack works for supplements, medication and pet food where a child-resistant closure and a moisture barrier are required.

Pack sizes follow the product. A 3.5 g or 7 g flower pouch, a 100 mg or 500 mg edible bag, a gummy pack, a concentrate jar-style stand-up pouch, a pre-roll sleeve and a cartridge box insert are all standard shapes for this structure. The flat-bottom pouch gives a stable shelf presence for larger fills. The three-side-seal pouch is the flat, low-profile option. The organ bag is the rounder, softer silhouette.

Because the material is PE or PP mono-material, the pack can be recycled where PE or PP film collection exists. That is the trade-off against a foil laminate: mono-material PE gives recyclability and a good moisture barrier, but a PET/AL/PE structure would give a higher oxygen and light barrier for very sensitive concentrates. Choose based on the product's sensitivity and the recycling claim you want to make.

Filling, sealing and handling

The pouch runs on standard vertical form-fill-seal and pre-made pouch lines. Fill through the top opening, then heat seal above the child-resistant zipper. The seal temperature and dwell time depend on the PE or PP film gauge; your line supplier or the factory can confirm the window. The tear notch sits below the seal, so the consumer opens the pack once and then uses the zipper.

Child-resistant performance is a property of the finished pack, not the film alone. The zipper, the film and the seal all have to work together. If you change the zipper type or the film thickness, re-test the child-resistant function before production.

Minimum order quantity is from 100 pcs for pouches with digital printing, or from 10,000 pcs with rotogravure. Digital print runs ship in 10-15 working days after artwork approval.
