What this pack is

This is a flexible pet food bag built from a PET/PE laminate at 140 micron. The PET outer layer carries the print and resists scuffing in transit; the PE inner layer provides the seal and keeps the pack closed against moisture and dust. At this thickness the bag holds its shape on shelf and stands up without collapsing when partly empty. The structure is a workhorse for dry kibble, biscuits and treats where a full foil barrier is not required. Thickness and material can be adjusted if your product needs a different moisture or oxygen profile.

Three bag formats are available: flat bottom, side gusset and stand up pouch. The flat bottom bag gives the most stable base and a clean front panel for branding. The side gusset bag expands to hold larger volumes and packs down as product is removed. The stand up pouch is the common choice for retail portions. All three accept a resealable zipper, tear notch and degassing valve where relevant.

Features called out on this bag

Food-grade materials are used throughout, so the pack is suitable for direct contact with dry pet food. A U-shaped tear notch is placed on the edge so the bag opens cleanly by hand without scissors. A press-to-close self-sealing strip runs across the top; pressing it shut after opening limits air exchange and helps keep kibble crisp between meals.

The edges are flat and the bottom is self-supporting, which adds stability on shelf and during filling. Decoration is applied by high-definition digital printing, giving clear graphics, fine text and consistent colour across short runs. The print method suits brands that change artwork or run several SKUs without committing to rotogravure cylinders.

Closures and add-ons can be combined: zipper, tear notch, one-way degassing valve, window, spout and cap, carry handle and hang hole. A valve is useful on packs that release gas after filling, such as freshly roasted or extruded products. A window lets buyers see the kibble shape and colour without opening the bag.

Where it is used

The bag suits dry pet food across a range of pack sizes. Typical fills include 1 kg, 2 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg kibble, plus smaller treat and training-treat portions. Flat bottom and side gusset formats are common for bulk and multi-serve packs because they stand firmly on a shelf or pallet. Stand up pouches are used for retail-facing 500 g to 2 kg lines where shelf presence matters.

The same construction works for pet treats, dental chews, dried meat strips and supplement powders. Because the material and thickness are customizable, the pack can be tuned to the fill weight and the expected shelf life. If you are moving from a rigid container, a flexible bag reduces material weight per unit and shipping volume, though it offers less physical protection against crushing.

Filling, sealing and handling

These bags run on standard vertical form-fill-seal or pre-made pouch filling lines. The PE inner layer seals at typical heat-seal temperatures for polyethylene; exact settings depend on your sealer and line speed. The flat bottom needs a brief settling step after filling so the base opens fully before the top seal is closed. The zipper profile should be kept clear of product during filling to avoid trapped kibble in the seal area.

The honest trade-off is barrier. PET/PE gives good moisture resistance and mechanical strength at a moderate cost, but it is not a high-barrier foil laminate. For long shelf life or oxygen-sensitive contents, a PET/AL/PE or PET/NY/PE structure performs better. If recyclability is the priority, mono-material PE or PP options are available, though they usually offer less oxygen barrier than foil-containing laminates. Choose based on shelf life, distribution and end-of-life requirements.
