What this pouch is

This is a custom-printed flexible pouch for beef jerky and similar snack products. The standard build is a matte film, kraft paper, PET or PE laminate at 110 micron, and every layer can be adjusted to suit the product inside. Matte film gives a soft, non-reflective finish that holds print detail well. Kraft paper adds a natural, tactile surface that suits artisan and premium snack brands. PET contributes stiffness and puncture resistance, while PE forms the inner sealing layer that contacts the food. The structure can be tailored for barrier, feel and cost, and the pouch is food-grade throughout.

At 110 micron, the film is thick enough to stand up on shelf and resist tearing during handling, yet flexible enough to run on common vertical form-fill-seal and pre-made pouch filling lines. If your jerky is oily or has a strong aroma, a higher-barrier laminate or an additional metallised layer can be specified. If your priority is recyclability, a mono-material PE structure is available at a similar thickness. The right choice depends on shelf life targets, distribution conditions and the filling equipment you already run.

Resealable strip and tear design

The pouch uses a press-to-close zipper with a concave and convex profile that interlocks along the full width. It can be opened and closed many times without losing grip, which matters for jerky because most packs are consumed over several sittings. The zipper is sealed into the top of the pouch during making, so it does not interfere with the fill and seal operation on your line.

A U-shaped tear notch is positioned below the zipper. It creates a clean starting point so the consumer opens the pack without scissors and without tearing into the print area. The combination of zipper and tear notch keeps the opening edge neat, which reduces spillage and makes the pack easier to reseal. Both features are standard on this pouch and can be positioned to suit your pack format.

Print and shelf presence

Printing is available in rotogravure up to 10 colours, digital or flexographic. Rotogravure gives bright, dense colour and fine detail that holds up on matte film and kraft paper. Digital print suits shorter runs and frequent artwork changes. The matte surface reduces glare under retail lighting, so the pattern reads clearly and the colours look rich rather than washed out. Registration is tight enough for small text, ingredient panels and barcodes.

The pouch can be supplied with a window to show the product, a hang hole for peg display, or a flat bottom for a taller shelf stance. These are options, not defaults, and they affect the making process and lead time. If you need a window, specify the shape and position early so the print layout can be built around it.

Where it is used

These pouches are used for beef jerky, turkey jerky, biltong, dried fruit, nuts, trail mix, coffee beans and ground coffee, and other snack items that benefit from resealability. Common fill weights range from 30 g single-serve packs to 500 g share bags, though the size is fully customizable. The same structure works for pet treats and contract manufacturing runs where a brand needs a consistent pack across several SKUs.

Because the pouch is made to order, the dimensions, zipper position, tear notch and print are set per project. That means one artwork file and one set of making specifications per SKU, which keeps repeat orders consistent.

Filling, sealing and material trade-offs

The pouch runs on standard filling equipment for pre-made pouches. The inner PE layer seals at typical temperatures for polyethylene, and the seal window is wide enough to accommodate normal line variation. For jerky, the main risk is oil migration and moisture pickup, so the barrier layer should be chosen with the expected shelf life in mind. A PET/PE structure is fine for short shelf life; a foil or metallised layer extends it. Mono-material PE offers recyclability but gives up some barrier and stiffness compared with foil laminates. Kraft paper gives a premium look but needs a barrier liner if the product is oily. Digital print runs ship in 10–15 working days after artwork approval; rotogravure runs take 20–25 working days.
