What this pouch is
This is a flexible pouch built for frozen food, made from a PET/PE laminate at 140 micron as standard. The PET outer layer carries the print and resists scuffing and moisture during cold-chain handling. The PE inner layer is the food-contact layer and the heat-seal layer. Together they form a stiff, puncture-resistant pack that holds its shape when filled and stands up in a freezer or on a shelf.
The laminate blocks oxygen and moisture, which slows oxidation and limits bacterial growth, so frozen contents keep their texture and flavour over a long storage period. The seal is airtight and stays intact through freezing, thawing and microwave heating. Thickness is customizable, and the material structure can be adjusted if your product needs a higher barrier or a different seal profile.
Styles and features
The pouch is available as a flat bottom bag, a side gusset bag or a stand up pouch. Flat bottom bags give a stable base and a clean front panel for retail. Side gusset bags expand to hold larger or blockier portions. Stand up pouches are the common choice for single-serve and family-size frozen meals.
The pack is designed to go straight from freezer to microwave. Contents can be steamed in the pouch without opening it, which keeps moisture in and saves the consumer a step. If your product needs venting, a one-way degassing valve can be added. Other options include a zipper for resealability, a tear notch for clean opening, a window to show the product, a hang hole for peg display, and a carry handle on larger formats. Printing is available by rotogravure up to 10 colours, digital or flexographic, so brand and cooking instructions can be carried on the pack.
Where it is used
These pouches suit frozen ready meals, frozen vegetables and fruit, frozen dumplings and dim sum, frozen seafood and meat portions, frozen pet food, and frozen soups or sauces. They also work for chilled and ambient ready-to-eat meals where the same barrier and microwave performance is needed.
Common sizes run from single-serve portions up to family and bulk packs. The flat bottom and side gusset formats are usually chosen when the pack needs to sit upright on a shelf or in a freezer drawer; the stand up pouch is used where shelf presence and portion control matter most.
Filling, sealing and handling
The pouch runs on standard form-fill-seal or premade pouch filling lines. The PE seal layer accepts a wide heat-seal window, which helps maintain seal integrity at speed. Before production, we test heat seal performance, seal strength, interlayer adhesion, drop resistance, compression and puncture resistance. These checks confirm the pack survives filling, packing, transport and freezer storage without leaking or delaminating.
The trade-off with a mono-material PET/PE structure is barrier versus recyclability. It offers good oxygen and moisture protection for most frozen foods and is easier to recycle than a mixed foil laminate. If your product is highly oxygen-sensitive, a foil or metallized structure gives a higher barrier but is not recyclable in the same stream.
