This is a flat bottom gusset bag built for dry pet care products. The structure is a PET/PE laminate at 140 micron, customizable if you need a different thickness or material combination. PET gives the outer layer stiffness, printability and puncture resistance; the PE sealant layer closes cleanly on standard filling lines and keeps the seal strong through handling.

The flat bottom creates a box-like base, so the filled bag stands upright on shelf without a shelf-ready tray. That shape also puts more printable surface on the front and back panels than a pillow or stand-up pouch of similar volume, which matters when the label has to carry breed, weight, ingredient and regulatory information.

Barrier performance comes from the laminate and any added functional layers. It limits moisture ingress, oxygen transmission and UV light that degrade fats and kibble coatings. The matte finish reduces glare under store lighting and gives the pack a softer, more premium feel without changing the barrier.

This bag is also available as a side gusset bag or stand up pouch if your filling line or shelf set calls for a different silhouette. The material and barrier logic stays the same across those formats.

Features that carry the pack

The resealable zipper is press-to-close and sits below the top seal. After opening, owners can close the bag between feeds, which slows staling and keeps kibble or treats contained. The zipper also makes it harder for pets to nose into the bag when it is left on the floor.

The flat bottom gusset gives the bag a stable footprint and a clean front panel. For retail, that means the pack faces forward on shelf and holds its shape when partly emptied. The same construction supports a tear notch for clean opening and a hang hole if you need peg display.

Print options include matte, soft-touch, gloss and spot finishes. Digital printing suits short runs and frequent artwork changes; rotogravure suits larger runs where colour consistency across SKUs matters. You can add a one-way degassing valve if the product releases gas, a window to show the kibble, a carry handle for larger sizes, or a spout and cap for pourable formats.

The laminate is chosen for puncture resistance because pet food bags are handled roughly in transit and at home. The PET outer layer resists tearing and punctures from sharp kibble edges or claws, so the barrier stays intact until the bag is opened.

Where it is used

This pack suits dry pet food and treats in sizes from small trial bags to larger household formats. Typical fills include kibble, biscuits, dental chews, jerky strips, freeze-dried treats, meal toppers, dry supplements and powdered meal mixes. The flat bottom shape works well for 1 kg to 5 kg formats where the bag needs to stand on a shelf or in a pantry.

It is also used for pet care products outside food, such as dried grooming additives, litter deodoriser powders and small accessory kits, where the same barrier and reseal features apply. If your product is oily or aromatic, the barrier layer and zipper combination helps keep the scent in and the moisture out.

For brands selling through retail, the large front panel and matte finish support high-resolution graphics and regulatory text. For direct-to-consumer and subscription packs, the resealable zipper and durable laminate reduce returns from torn or stale product.

Filling, sealing and material trade-offs

This bag runs on standard vertical form-fill-seal or pre-made pouch filling lines. The flat bottom needs a filling line that can open the base and settle the product before sealing. The PE sealant layer seals at common temperatures, but you should confirm settings with your line and the finished roll or pouch lot.

The honest trade-off is between barrier and recyclability. PET/PE gives strong moisture and puncture protection at a moderate cost, but it is a multi-material laminate and not widely recyclable in kerbside streams. If recyclability is the priority, mono-material PE or PP structures are available, and they can be designed to pass through PE or PP recycling streams where collection exists. Barrier is usually lower than a foil-containing laminate, so shelf life may be shorter for fatty or highly aromatic products.

Compostable options such as PLA/PBS and degradable films are also available for brands that need them. These materials have their own storage and sealing requirements, so they are best specified with the fill weight and shelf-life target in hand.
