What this pouch is

That single-polymer construction matters if recyclability is on your brief: mono-material PE and PP streams are easier to sort and reprocess than mixed laminates. The trade-off is that a mono structure gives moderate moisture and oxygen barrier rather than the very high barrier of a foil laminate, so it suits products with a reasonable shelf life or an inner wrap. Where a longer shelf life is needed, multi-layer laminated films can be specified to resist moisture, oxygen, light and odour.

The pouch is made from food-grade materials and the film is suitable for direct contact with edible goods. Thick food-grade plastic and a durable flexible construction give the pack enough stiffness to stand on shelf and enough toughness to survive distribution. The child-resistant closure is the defining feature: it requires two hands and a coordinated action to open, which keeps young children out while remaining straightforward for adults.

Closure and barrier features

The primary closure is a patented locking press-to-close zipper. It is a push-to-open or push-and-slide mechanism that must be aligned and pressed with two hands. This is not a standard resealable zipper; it is a certified child-resistant system designed to meet child-proof packaging requirements. The zipper also acts as a reclosable seal, so the pack can be opened and closed repeatedly without losing product integrity, freshness or odour control. For brands selling edibles and infused products, that repeated open-close cycle is part of daily use.

Barrier performance comes from the film structure. Multi-layer constructions are available to block moisture, oxygen, light and odour, which protects candies, gummies, chocolates and cannabis-infused items from staling, melting or losing potency. The pouch can be printed in custom colours, and the child-resistant zipper can be combined with standard pouch formats such as stand-up and flat pouches. If you need a more sustainable option, eco-conscious film structures and post-consumer recycled (PCR) child-resistant zippers are available.

Where it is used

Filling, sealing and handling

The pouch runs on standard filling lines for pre-made pouches. The child-resistant zipper sits above the fill area, so the pouch is filled through the top opening and then heat-sealed closed. The zipper itself is not the primary seal; the top seal is. This means the pack remains child-resistant after the first opening because the zipper re-engages each time. The mono-material PE or PP film seals at lower temperatures than foil laminates, which can simplify setup on existing sealing equipment. However, the same mono structure offers less barrier than a foil laminate, so if your product is sensitive to oxygen or moisture over a long shelf life, consider a multi-layer film or an inner liner. For cannabis edibles, check that the finished pack meets the applicable PPPA and CPSC performance standards; the zipper system is designed for that, but the final pack must be tested as a whole.
