What this flat pouch is

This is a flat pouch built from a three-layer laminate: an outer matte film, a pure aluminium core and an inner PE sealant layer. The construction is 140 micron as standard, and both thickness and dimensions are made to order. The matte outer film keeps the surface non-reflective, which holds print contrast well under retail lighting. The aluminium layer sits at the centre of the structure and does the barrier work: it blocks light and resists moisture vapour, two of the main causes of flavour loss, clumping or product degradation in dry goods. The inner PE layer is the heat-seal surface, so the pouch closes on standard impulse or constant-heat sealers.

Because the aluminium core is fully opaque, the pouch protects contents that are light-sensitive, including tea and coffee. The trade-off is that this structure is not a mono-material recyclable format; where recyclability is the priority, a mono PE or PP laminate is the alternative, with lower moisture barrier than foil.

Tear, seal and print features

A tear notch is positioned so the pouch opens by hand without scissors. The notch controls where the tear propagates across the seal, which keeps the opening clean and reduces spillage on first use. The pouch is die-cut with rounded corners, and the cut edges are clean with no burrs that could catch on fingers or snag during packing.

Printing is high-definition, so fine type, line work and photographic imagery reproduce with sharp edges. The matte film reduces glare, which makes small text easier to read and gives the pack a less glossy, more premium surface. Colours and artwork are fully customizable. The flat pouch format accepts a zipper, tear notch, hang hole or window where the product needs reclosure, shelf hanging or visibility. Note that adding a window removes the aluminium layer in that area, so light and moisture protection is reduced at the window.

Where it is used

The format suits flat, stackable goods. Typical fills include face masks, tea, snacks and coffee. Face masks are light and do not need a high gas barrier, so the aluminium layer mainly provides opacity and a clean, printable surface. Tea and coffee are more demanding: both are sensitive to moisture and oxygen, and the foil layer slows staling between packing and use. Snacks benefit from the moisture and light block to preserve crunch and colour.

Sizes are customizable, so the same structure can be run for a single mask, a multi-pack, a 100 g tea fill or a 250 g coffee fill. Confirming the filled dimensions, product weight and stacking method before artwork is approved avoids a pouch that is too tight to seal or too loose to stand neatly in a retail box.

Filling, sealing and ordering

Flat pouches run on standard vertical or horizontal form-fill-seal lines, or can be hand-filled and sealed for smaller runs. Seal temperature, pressure and dwell time need to be set for the PE inner layer; too little heat gives a weak seal, too much causes wrinkling or channel leaks. Keep the seal area free of product, especially fine tea dust or powder, because contamination in the seal is a common cause of leakers.

Minimum order quantity depends on the printing method. Digital print starts from 100 pcs for pouches, with a lead time of 10-15 working days after artwork approval. Rotogravure printing starts from 10,000 pcs, with a lead time of 20-25 working days. Rotogravure gives the lowest unit cost at high volume and up to 10 colours; digital avoids plate costs and suits shorter runs or frequent artwork changes.
