What this pack is

This is a flexible pet food bag built from a PET/PE laminate at 140 micron. The PET outer layer gives the pack stiffness and a clean surface for print. The PE inner layer is the food-contact layer and provides the seal. The structure is a workhorse for dry pet food: it keeps kibble or treats away from moisture and oxygen long enough for a normal retail shelf life, and it resists the punctures that sharp edges can cause.

The bag comes in three formats: flat bottom, side gusset and stand-up pouch. Flat bottom bags sit squarely on the shelf and hold their shape when partly empty. Side gusset bags give a more traditional block-bottom look and more surface area for branding. Stand-up pouches are the lightest option and take up less shelf depth. Thickness and material can be adjusted if you need a higher barrier or a different finish.

Features that matter on the line

A press-to-close zipper runs across the top. It seals with one pass of the thumb and stays shut, which keeps the contents from spilling and slows the stale air that comes with repeated opening. The bag also has a U-shaped tear notch. It gives the user a clean start point, so the top opens without scissors and without tearing down the side.

The self-supporting bottom is a folded base that distributes weight across the full footprint. That raises the load the bag can carry and keeps it upright on a counter or pallet. Printing is high-definition digital, which holds fine detail and small text. Digital print also means you can run short volumes without paying for rotogravure cylinders. For larger runs, rotogravure is available and brings the cost per bag down.

Where it is used

These bags are made for dry pet food and treats: kibble, biscuits, dental chews, freeze-dried liver, training treats, seed and grain mixes, and small-animal food. Common fill weights run from a few hundred grams up to several kilograms, depending on the format. A flat bottom bag in 140 micron handles a 2–5 kg fill comfortably. A stand-up pouch is usually chosen for 200 g to 1 kg. Side gusset bags sit between the two and are often used for 1–3 kg.

The pack also suits contract manufacturers and private-label brands that pack on form-fill-seal or pre-made pouch lines. Because the material is food-grade and the inner layer is PE, it meets the usual requirements for direct dry-food contact.

Filling, sealing and handling

Pre-made bags are filled through the top opening and sealed with a heat sealer or a band sealer. The PE inner layer seals at lower temperatures than a foil-based laminate, which helps if your line runs at moderate speeds. The zipper sits below the seal zone, so it stays clear of the sealing jaws. If you fill on a form-fill-seal machine, the same laminate runs on standard vertical or horizontal equipment with the right settings.

The trade-off with PET/PE is barrier. It keeps dry food fresh for typical ambient shelf life, but it is not a high-barrier foil structure. If your product is sensitive to oxygen or needs a very long shelf life, a foil or metallised layer is the better choice. Mono-material PE and PP recyclable options are also available, and they can carry a zipper and a tear notch. They cost more per bag than PET/PE but support a recyclability claim. Lead time for digital print runs is 10–15 working days after artwork approval. Rotogravure runs take 20–25 working days. Low MOQ starts at 100 pcs for pouches and 10 kg for film with digital printing; rotogravure starts at 10,000 pcs or 200 kg.
