What this pack is

This is a flexible pouch for dry dog food and treats, built from a PET/PE laminate at 140 micron. PET gives the outer layer stiffness, printability and puncture resistance. PE forms the inner seal layer and provides a moisture barrier. Together they block oxygen, water vapour and contaminants that degrade kibble and treats. The result is a pack that holds its shape on shelf while protecting the food inside.

The thickness is a starting point, not a fixed rule. Heavier fills or rougher supply chains may call for a thicker structure; lighter treat packs can run thinner. Material combinations are also adjustable. If you need a higher oxygen barrier for fat-rich recipes, a foil or metallised layer can be added. If recyclability is the priority, mono-material PE or PP is available. The bag type can be flat bottom, side gusset or stand up pouch, depending on how you want the pack to stand and fill.

Features that protect and sell

The multi-layer laminate is chosen for barrier performance. It keeps out moisture, oxygen and pollutants that cause staleness, rancidity and loss of nutrients. For treats with fats or oils, this barrier is what preserves flavour and aroma over months of storage.

Durability matters as much as barrier. Pet food bags travel through palletising, stacking and long freight routes. The laminated structure resists punctures and tears, so bags arrive intact and product does not spill. Strong seals at the top and bottom add to that security.

For shelf appeal and convenience, these pouches can include a resealable zipper, a tear notch for clean opening, a window to show the product, a carry handle for larger formats, and a hang hole for retail display. Degassing valves are available if the fill is hot or releases gas. Printing is done by rotogravure up to 10 colours, digital or flexographic, so brand graphics and nutritional information come out sharp. Where it is used

These bags suit dry dog food, kibble, biscuits, jerky, training treats and dental chews. They also work for cat food, pet treats and other animal feeds. Common sizes range from small 250 g treat pouches to 5 kg and 10 kg dog food bags, in flat bottom, side gusset or stand up formats.

The pack type follows the product and the retail channel. Flat bottom bags stand squarely on shelf and take high-quality print. Side gusset bags give a traditional block-bottom look and good volume for larger fills. Stand up pouches are efficient for smaller treat packs and hanging displays.

Filling, sealing and material trade-offs

These pouches run on standard form-fill-seal or pre-made pouch filling lines. The PE inner layer seals at typical heat-seal temperatures. Once sealed, the bag is airtight. For products that release gas, a one-way valve can be fitted. Always test your fill weight and product characteristics with a sample before committing to a full run.

Material choice is a trade-off. PET/PE gives good moisture barrier and toughness at a moderate cost, but it is not a high oxygen barrier unless you add foil or metallised film. Mono-material PE or PP improves recyclability but may offer lower barrier, so it suits shorter shelf-life or less oxygen-sensitive products. Compostable options like PLA/PBS are available for brands targeting that end-of-life route. The right structure depends on your product, shelf life and sustainability goals.
