What this pack is

This is a flat bottom pouch built from a BOPP/MPET/PE laminate. The structure combines oriented polypropylene for stiffness and printability, metallised polyester for barrier against oxygen and moisture, and polyethylene for sealability and recyclability. Thickness is customizable to suit your product's shelf life and filling method. The flat bottom design gives the pouch a stable base, so it stands upright on the shelf and in the home. The high barrier protects sensitive contents from oxygen, moisture and light, helping to maintain freshness and extend shelf life.

The pouch can also be configured as a stand-up pouch or flat pouch, depending on your presentation and filling needs. The flat bottom increases the internal volume for a given footprint, and the self-supporting base adds presence on shelf. The edge is flat and the bottom is self-supporting, which effectively increases the gravity and stability of the pack.

Features and closures

A sealing tear strip is integrated into the top seal. It provides a clean, controlled opening without scissors and helps maintain a good seal before first use. The tear strip is designed for a good sealing effect, so the pouch remains airtight until opened.

The pouch is fitted with a child-resistant zipper. This closure can be opened and closed many times, making it suitable for products that are used over time. The zipper is easy for adults to operate but difficult for young children, adding a layer of safety for certain products.

Printing is high-definition digital, which gives clear images and fine text. Digital printing is well suited to short runs and multiple SKUs, with lead times of 10-15 working days after artwork approval. For larger volumes, rotogravure printing is available with lead times of 20-25 working days.

Where it is used

This pouch suits a range of dry goods: coffee beans, ground coffee, snacks, confectionery, tea, dried fruit, nuts, pet food and treats. The flat bottom and high barrier make it a good fit for products that need shelf presence and protection from oxygen and moisture. The child-resistant zipper is particularly relevant for products that may be harmful if ingested by children, such as certain supplements or medicated confectionery.

The pouch can be sized to common pack weights, from 100 g to 2 kg, depending on the product's bulk density. The flat bottom allows efficient use of shelf space and stable stacking.

Filling, sealing and handling

The pouch runs on standard form-fill-seal lines or can be filled manually. The flat bottom requires support during filling to keep the base open. Sealing is done by heat, and the seal parameters should be set according to the PE layer. The tear strip is integrated into the top seal, so no additional opening feature is needed.

The material choice is a trade-off. BOPP/MPET/PE provides good barrier and recyclability, but for very long shelf life or highly oxygen-sensitive products, a foil-containing structure may be needed. The recyclable PP-based laminate is a good option for brands looking to improve recyclability without losing too much barrier. The pouch can also incorporate a one-way degassing valve for roasted coffee, a spout for liquids, or a window to show the product.
