What this pet food pack is

This is a dry pet food bag supplied in three formats: flat bottom, side gusset and stand up pouch. The standard structure is PET/PE at 140 micron, and both the material build and calliper can be changed to match your product. PET gives the outer layer stiffness and a smooth surface for print. PE forms the inner seal layer and provides the moisture barrier. At 140 micron the bag holds its shape on shelf and resists punctures from kibble edges during transit.

The barrier is the point of the pack. Oxygen and moisture transmission through the film are the main causes of rancidity in dry pet food, and light accelerates fat oxidation. The laminate can include oxygen barrier, moisture barrier and light-resistant layers, so nutrients, aroma and texture hold up through distribution and retail display. Glossy, matte and metallized surface options are available depending on how much light protection and shelf presence you need.

Features and closures

A front zipper is the standard reclosure. It sits across the face of the bag, so the pack opens and closes without folding or clips. A tear notch above the zipper is optional and gives a clean opening line. The bottom is either a regular bottom or a folded bottom, both of which let the pouch stand unsupported on shelf.

Top-punched carrying handles are available for larger fill weights. The flat, writable side panels take uninterrupted artwork, which matters when your label carries feeding guidelines, ingredient declarations and certification marks. The bag runs on prefabricated pouch filling lines, so changeover is quick and filling efficiency is high. Precut tear notches, hang holes and windows can be added if your retail format calls for them.

Where it is used

The pack suits dry pet food across a range of bag sizes: kibble, biscuits, treats, cat food and organic dry diets. Typical fills run from small treat pouches up to multi-kilogram kibble bags where the handle and stable bottom become necessary. The same structure works for contract manufacturers filling on behalf of several brands, because the print and barrier specification can be set per SKU without changing the bag format.

Because the barrier layers are selected per product, high-fat kibble and freeze-dried treats can be given more oxygen protection than a low-fat biscuit line needs. That keeps cost aligned with actual shelf-life requirements rather than over-specifying every bag.

Filling, sealing and material trade-offs

These are prefabricated pouches, so they arrive ready to fill on a pouch-filling line. The PE inner layer seals at standard heat-seal temperatures, and the flat bottom gives a stable base through the filler, sealer and case-packing stages. Confirm your fill weight and drop height with us before ordering, because 140 micron is a starting point and heavier fills may need a thicker or reinforced structure.

On sustainability, the honest position is that PET/PE is a conventional laminate, not a mono-material recyclable film. It is chosen for barrier and machine performance. If recyclability is the priority, mono-material PE and PP structures or PLA/PBS compostable options can be quoted, but each changes the barrier profile and usually the shelf life. The eco angle here is reduced material weight and extended shelf life, which cuts food waste, rather than a recyclable stream claim.
