What this pack is

This is a flexible pouch range for frozen food, supplied in flat bottom, side gusset and stand up formats. The standard wall is 140 micron PET/PE, a two-layer laminate with polyester on the outside and polyethylene on the inside. The PET layer carries the print and resists abrasion through cold storage and transport. The PE layer is the food-contact sealant and provides the moisture barrier. At 140 micron the film stays flexible at freezer temperatures, so it bends rather than cracks when packs are stacked, dropped or handled roughly.

The construction can be tailored for higher barrier or for recyclability. For long frozen storage, a foil or metallised layer is added to block oxygen and light. For sustainability targets, mono-material PE or PP structures and compostable PLA/PBS options are available. Thickness is customizable, so a heavier gauge can be specified where the pack must survive more abuse.

Features that matter in a freezer

Cold performance is the first requirement. The laminate is formulated to keep its flexibility below freezing and to resist cracking, so seals and corners do not fail during storage or distribution.

Barrier performance is the second. Multi-layer constructions limit oxygen and moisture ingress, which slows freezer burn and helps hold flavour, texture and appearance over the stated shelf life.

Consumer features can be added: a clear window to show the product, a resealable zipper for partial use, and a tear notch for opening without scissors. A one-way degassing valve is available for products that release gas, and a spout and cap can be fitted for liquid or semi-liquid frozen fillings.

Printing is by digital or rotogravure, up to 10 colours, so brand graphics stay sharp in a crowded freezer display. The pouch is also built to run on high-speed filling lines with consistent seal quality at commercial volumes.

Where it is used

The range suits frozen vegetables, fruit, french fries, dumplings, ready meals, seafood, poultry portions, plant-based proteins and frozen pet food. It works for both retail packs and bulk foodservice formats.

Because sizes and pouch shapes are customizable, the same structure can be run as a small retail stand up pouch or a larger side gusset bag for catering. Flat bottom pouches give a stable shelf presence and stack well in freezer cabinets.

Filling, sealing and the material trade-off

These pouches are designed for automatic filling and sealing lines. The PE sealant layer seals at typical low-temperature conditions and forms a strong bond that remains intact after freezing. Seal integrity is checked with leak testing to catch weak seals before shipment. For frozen products, fill temperature and product moisture should be controlled so condensation does not sit in the seal area.

The trade-off is between barrier and recyclability. A foil-containing laminate gives the longest shelf life and the best oxygen block, but it is not recyclable in most curbside streams. Mono-material PE or PP structures are recyclable where facilities accept them, but they offer a lower oxygen barrier and may need a shorter stated shelf life or an added scavenger. The right choice depends on your product's sensitivity and your sustainability targets.
