What this pack is

This is a flexible stick pack built for single-serve powdered drink mixes, tea and coffee. The structure is PET/NY/RCPP at 120 micron, a three-layer laminate chosen for its balance of stiffness, puncture resistance and heat-seal integrity. PET gives the outer surface a printable, scuff-resistant face. NY, or nylon, sits in the middle and adds toughness so the pack survives handling and transport without pinholes. RCPP, a cast polypropylene, forms the food-contact inner layer and seals cleanly on vertical form-fill-seal lines.

The 120 micron thickness is a working gauge, not a fixed limit. It can be adjusted up or down to suit fill weight, machine tension and the level of protection the powder needs. A pack that is too thin may flex and crack at the fold lines; too thick and it can resist a clean tear. This gauge sits in the range where a 2–10 g dose of powder stays protected and the pack still opens by hand.

Barrier performance comes from the laminate itself. The inner layer is described as aluminium foil in the source, which blocks sunlight and resists moisture ingress. In practice that means hygroscopic powders, such as instant tea or coffee blends, are less likely to clump, cake or lose aroma before the pack is opened. The foil layer also protects light-sensitive ingredients from degradation on the shelf.

Features and options

The pack is food-grade throughout, so it is suitable for direct contact with dry beverage mixes. An easy-tear design is built in: a controlled tear path lets the user open the pack without scissors and without spilling powder. That is usually achieved with a tear notch or a laser score in the seal area, and it is specified to match the laminate gauge so the tear runs straight.

Printing is high-definition, which keeps fine type, ingredient panels and brand marks legible on a small surface. The surface accepts custom colours and artwork. Because the pack is narrow, registration and colour consistency matter more than on a large pouch; digital or rotogravure printing can both be used depending on run length.

The format is compatible with common stick-pack fillers and can be supplied in rollstock or as finished packs. Closures such as zippers are not typical on a single-serve stick, but tear notches, hang holes and custom sizes are available. The material itself can be customised, including alternative laminates, if the powder requires a different barrier or a recyclable structure.

Where it is used

This pack is used for tea packets, powder packets and coffee packets. Typical fills include instant coffee, instant tea, powdered drink mixes, protein or electrolyte sachets, and single-serve nutritional powders. Pack sizes are customisable, so the same format can run from a small 2 g sample sachet to a larger 10 g or 15 g serving, within the limits of the filling line.

The pack suits brands that want a low-weight, low-storage-volume alternative to jars or tins. It is also used by contract manufacturers and private-label fillers who need a consistent stick pack across several recipes. Because the outer layer is printable, the same structure can carry different brand designs without changing the material specification.

Filling, sealing and trade-offs

Stick packs run on vertical form-fill-seal equipment. The RCPP inner layer seals at lower temperatures than a PE sealant, which helps protect heat-sensitive powders, but sealing parameters must be set for the actual gauge and line speed. Powder fillers need good dust control: fine particles in the seal area are the most common cause of leakers. The laminate's stiffness helps the pack hold its shape through the filler and into the carton.

The trade-off is between barrier and recyclability. A PET/NY/RCPP or foil-containing laminate gives strong light and moisture protection, but it is a multi-material structure and is not widely recyclable in kerbside streams. Mono-material PE or PP options exist for brands that prioritise recyclability, but they generally offer a lower moisture barrier than a foil-bearing laminate. The right choice depends on shelf life, distribution climate and the powder's sensitivity.

Minimum order quantities depend on the print method. Digital printing starts from 100 pcs for pouches or 10 kg for film, with a 10–15 working day lead time after artwork approval. Rotogravure starts from 10,000 pcs or 200 kg, with a 20–25 working day lead time. Free stock pouch samples are available; the customer covers courier only.
