Flexible Foil Frozen Food Bag​ with Window Packaging​

What this pack is

This is a flexible frozen food bag built from laminated film, supplied at 140 micron as standard with the gauge adjusted to the fill weight and the abuse the pack will meet in the cold chain. The construction is a multi-layer laminate, so the outer layer carries the print and resists scuffing on the shelf, while the inner layer does the sealing and stays intact at freezer temperatures. PET/PE is the base structure; PET/AL/PE and PET/VMPET/PE are available where a higher barrier is needed.

The aluminium or metallized layer is what holds back moisture, oxygen and odour, which is the mechanism behind freezer burn. Ice crystals form when the surface of the food loses moisture to the air inside the pack; a foil or metallized layer slows that migration and keeps colour and texture closer to fresh. The pack also tolerates the temperature swings between blast freezer, cold store and display case without the seal failing.

A high-clarity window is die-cut into the front panel so the product inside is visible. The window can be positioned to show the food without exposing it to light across the whole face, which matters for anything prone to oxidation.

Features and options

The bag comes in three formats: flat bottom, side gusset and stand up pouch. Flat bottom bags hold their shape on the shelf and stack well in a carton; side gusset bags give more volume for larger fills; stand up pouches are the usual choice for retail portions. Sizes are made to order rather than cut from a fixed size list.

Printing is fully custom, with matte or gloss finish on the outer film. Matte reads as premium and hides fingerprints; gloss lifts colour saturation. Add-ons include a zipper for resealable packs, a tear notch for clean opening, and a hang hole where pegboard display is used. A one-way degassing valve is available for packs that release gas after filling.

The structures are food-contact compliant. The laminates used here, including PET/AL/PE and PET/VMPET/PE, meet EU and FDA requirements for food contact. Certification sits with the manufacturing partner, not with the supplier, and documents are issued per order.

For brands working on recyclability, a mono-material PE structure is available. It is a different film from the foil laminates and the barrier is lower, so it suits shorter shelf-life frozen lines rather than long-haul export.

Where it is used

The pack is aimed at frozen food producers and contract packers. Typical fills are seafood such as shrimp and fish fillets, vegetables and mixed produce, frozen dumplings and dim sum, chicken nuggets and popcorn chicken, and ready-to-eat frozen snacks. It works for both retail portions and heavier wholesale packs.

Because the window shows the product, the format suits lines where the food itself is the selling point, such as whole shrimp or clean-cut fillets. For minced or coated products where appearance varies, a full print panel with no window is often the better choice.

Filling, sealing and handling

These bags run on standard vertical or horizontal form-fill-seal lines and on pre-made pouch fillers. The seal layer needs a clean, dry seal area; product in the seal, oil or crumbs will cause channel leaks that only show up after a few weeks in the freezer. Seal temperature, dwell and pressure should be set for the actual laminate and gauge, not copied from a different film.

Minimum order is 100 pcs for pouches with digital printing, or 10 kg for film. Rotogravure printing starts at 10,000 pcs or 200 kg. Digital runs ship 10-15 working days after artwork approval; rotogravure takes 20-25 working days. Stock pouch samples are free, with the customer covering courier only.

The trade-off to plan for is barrier versus recyclability. Foil and metallized laminates give the longest freezer life and the best protection against freezer burn, but they are multi-material and not recyclable in most streams. Mono-material PE can be recycled where the infrastructure exists, at the cost of a shorter barrier window. Choose based on the shelf life you are promising, not on the label alone.
