The aluminum layer is the barrier. It stops oxygen and water vapour from reaching the coffee, which is what causes stale flavours and loss of aroma. The matte oil finish gives a soft, non-reflective surface that holds print well. The PE inner layer is the food-contact layer and provides the heat-seal surface. The structure is stiff enough to hold its shape on shelf but still flexible for filling lines.

Features and branding options

The outside is finished with black gold foil stamping. This is a hot foil transfer that adds a metallic gold effect to logos, text or patterns. It reads as premium without changing the barrier properties. The bag is sealed by heat. A consistent heat seal across the full width is what keeps the barrier intact; any channel or wrinkle in the seal becomes a path for moisture. The pouch format is sized for single-serve drip coffee sachets, so the internal dimensions match the filter and coffee dose. Custom printing is available on all sides. Sizes, thickness, printing and finishes can all be customised. Where it is used

The main use is single-serve pour over coffee. The pouch holds one dose of ground coffee with the filter inside, so the user tears the top and pours hot water through. The same structure suits tea, snacks and other dry goods where a foil barrier is needed. Common fill weights are half a pound, one pound and two pounds when the pouch is used for bulk coffee rather than single serve. Because the material blocks light, oxygen and moisture, it also works for ground spices, powdered drink mixes and dry pet treats. The black gold foil finish is usually chosen for retail shelves where the pack needs to stand out next to matte or gloss printed bags.

Filling, sealing and handling

These pouches run on standard vertical form fill seal or pre-made pouch filling lines. The 140 micron laminate needs enough seal temperature and dwell time to melt the PE layer without burning the matte oil finish. Test seals before a full run. The aluminum layer makes the film stiffer than a clear PE pouch, so check that your filler can handle the web tension. For coffee, flush the pouch with nitrogen before sealing if you want to extend shelf life beyond the barrier alone. The trade-off is that aluminum laminates are not recyclable in most curbside streams. If recyclability is a priority, ask about mono-material PE or PP structures, but expect a lower oxygen barrier than pure aluminum.
