What this pack is

This is a custom stand-up pouch built from a three-ply laminate: a matte film outer layer, a pure aluminium foil core, and a PE inner sealant. The total thickness is 140 micron, which is stiff enough to stand upright on a shelf and heavy enough to protect fragile or hygroscopic contents. The matte film gives a soft, non-reflective surface that resists scuffing during transport. The aluminium foil layer blocks light and water vapour, two of the main causes of texture loss and clumping in gummy candies and other snacks. The PE inner layer provides a clean, food-grade contact surface and allows heat sealing on standard pouch filling lines. Because the foil is a full barrier, the pack suits products that would otherwise go stale or sticky when exposed to humidity. The structure is also available in custom thicknesses if you need a different feel or barrier level.

The pouch is self-supporting: the bottom gusset unfolds to create a flat base, so the bag stands without a outer carton. That matters for retail shelves and for consumers who reseal and store the pack at home. The edges are flat and even, which helps the bag run smoothly through form-fill-seal and pre-made pouch filling equipment. The laminate is food-grade throughout, so it meets direct-contact requirements for dry snacks and confectionery.

Features and closures

The source design includes a U-shaped tear notch near the top edge. This notch guides the tear across the pouch so the opening is clean and controlled, without scissors. It is a small detail, but it reduces the chance of spilling small candies when the bag is first opened. The tear line sits above the zipper or seal area, so the pack can still be resealed if a zipper is added.

For resealability, a press-to-close zipper can be fitted below the tear notch. A zipper keeps gummy bears soft between servings and lets the pack travel in a lunch bag without leaking. If you need extended shelf life after opening, a one-way degassing valve is not typical for candy, but it is available for coffee and other products that release gas. A clear window can be added to show the product, and a hang hole or carry handle can be specified for retail or bulk formats. The print surface accepts rotogravure up to 10 colours, digital print, or flexographic print. Matte film holds colour well and produces bright, sharp graphics with a textured, premium feel. All add-ons are optional and can be combined to match your filling line and brand.

The pouch can also be produced as a flat bottom, three-side-seal, spout, or side gusset bag if your product needs a different shape. Spout pouches are available with corner spout or STANDCAP options for liquids and semi-liquids. The same laminate can be supplied as rollstock film for automated lines.

Where it is used

This bag is designed for snack packaging, with gummy bears as the lead application. The barrier and stiffness suit other confectionery, dried fruit, nuts, trail mix, and pet treats. The stand-up format works well for retail packs from 100 g to 1 kg, and the custom size means you can match the bag to your fill weight rather than designing the product around a stock pouch. Coffee roasters also use this structure for whole bean and ground coffee when a foil barrier is required. Tea brands use it for loose leaf and tea bags where light and moisture protection matters. Contract manufacturers can run the same laminate as pre-made pouches or rollstock depending on their filling equipment.

Because the materials are food-grade and the foil layer blocks light and water vapour, the pack protects flavour and texture during distribution. The matte finish keeps the pack looking clean on shelf even after handling. The self-supporting base reduces the need for secondary packaging, which can lower total packaging cost and waste.

Filling, sealing and trade-offs

The pouch runs on standard pre-made pouch filling lines. The flat edges and self-supporting bottom help with registration and sealing. Heat sealing is done through the PE inner layer; the sealing window depends on your equipment, but the 140 micron laminate is typical for snack and confectionery lines. If you use a zipper, fill below the zipper line to avoid product catching in the closure. For digital print runs, lead time is 10-15 working days after artwork approval, with MOQ from 100 pouches. Rotogravure print runs take 20-25 working days, with MOQ from 10,000 pouches. Film orders follow similar logic: from 10 kg digitally, from 200 kg rotogravure.

The main trade-off is barrier versus recyclability. The aluminium foil core gives excellent light and moisture protection, but it makes the laminate a multi-material structure that is not recyclable in most kerbside systems. If recyclability is a priority, a mono-material PE or PP structure is available, but it will not match foil for moisture barrier. A compostable PLA/PBS option is also available, with its own shelf-life and handling limits. Choose the structure based on your product's sensitivity and your sustainability targets.
